Cultural Festivals

About Tai Ethnic Cultural Festival

I had the opportunity to attend the third Tai Ethnic Cultural Festival, which took place in Tengakhat, in upper Assam's Dibrugarh district.

The event celebrated the heritage and traditions of the Tai communities. The festival showcased and highlighted the Tai culture, fostering unity and pride while embracing visitors with warm hospitality.

Highlights of this festival

The cultural festival provided a platform for locals to showcase their homegrown products, highlighting sustainability, community engagement initiatives, and women's empowerment.

Women's self-help groups participated, offering a diverse array of local dishes that included rice beer, smoked meat, pickles, pita, and various traditional sweets. Additionally, local women-owned businesses were showcasing exquisite handloom and handicraft items, along with stunning paintings.

I had some truly extraordinary experiences while engaging with incredibly talented women, which deepened my appreciation for the resilient spirit of these dynamic individuals. They dedicated 15 to 16 hours each day to ensure their success and active involvement in the festival.

Visitors enjoyed a variety of cultural performances, featuring traditional dances, music, and art. Local artisans showcased their crafts, providing insight into the intricate designs and techniques that have been handed down through generations.

The event was a lively tribute to the rich heritage and traditions of the Tai communities.
