Dibru Saikhowa National Park. My visit to this beautiful biosphere reserve.

A native place, hardly one hour drive from my hometown but never planned a visit to this beautiful biosphere reserve which is also a National Park. This time my father had organized the trip as he had already visited the area extensively during his service period.

Four of us, my father, mother, myself, and my brother started the journey not very early in the morning as it was a short drive. The whole area has seen rapid development lately, which is a positive sign for the tourism industry in the state. The roads are good, we also traveled through the newly constructed bypass which connects NH 37. The journey through tea gardens was truly peaceful. And the time was also best for the visit, it was the end of October.

The floating River cruise and exploring some fresh local cuisines are also a highlight of our trip. River dolphins are the main attraction of the park, and if lucky they could be seen at some specific points of the river. For me, these are really interesting experiences as I am not an adventure traveler but the National Park has also attracted many local and international tourists to do their bit of adventure and wildlife expeditions.

As the national park is only a 2 hrs drive away from Mohanbari Airport, which is very convenient for tourists to reach such a beautiful place.

MORE ABOUT THE PARK
The Park is bounded by the mighty Brahmaputra River and Lohet River in the north and Dibru River in the south. The Park is famous for wild feral horses and different varieties of Orchids. Around 43 species of Orchids are found in the Park. It is a paradise for orchid lovers, and to see a glimpse of those beautiful Orchids in that unique biosphere reserve.

The Park has numerous flora and fauna which are unique. Ecotourism cottages are also available to host tourists apart from hotels. The Park is only 45 mins away from Tinsukia town which is also a commercial hub in Assam, you can do some shopping for local handloom attires and handicrafts.
Tinsukia is a junction and well connected with the metro cities of India by train.

TRAVEL TIPS
Plan the trip for 3 nights stays to cover the area. If time allows do visit Asia’s oldest oil refinery in Digboi which was started in the year 1901. Also, a visit to the Golf Course and those old Bungalows of the British era is highly recommended.
